Waterloo Girls Minor Hockey Association (WGMHA) is a not-for-profit association that focuses on promoting female ice hockey and providing the best possible experience for all participants by encouraging, developing, advancing, and administering this female sport in the City of Waterloo while creating a fun and safe environment.

We are currently looking for an independent contractor to complete our Ice Scheduling requirements. The Ice Scheduler will be provided direction from a member of the Board of Directors that has the responsibility of ensuring appropriate scheduling and allocation.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Carries out the allocation, scheduling and administration of ice and other facilities that are used by the WGMHA for all operations

  • Monitors feedback and respond to any concerns from coaching staffs and managers regarding all ice scheduling issues in an open and transparent manner.

  • Assists the Director in allocation of all ice

  • Provides open, proactive and transparent communication to the Coaches regarding ice usage

  • Participates in annual scheduling meetings for Representative and House Leagues

  • Works cooperatively with members, Coaches, Ice Schedulers from other Centres, Board Members, WGMHA Bookkeeper, City staff and other Associations to effectively manage ice

  • Attends scheduling meetings for Representative and House League.

  • Check to make sure that all on-ice officials have been assigned for games



    Working conditions and Expected time commitment:

    The total time commitment is estimated to be 800 hours per year or an average of 10 hours per week minimum depending on the needs of scheduling. Certain times of year, (mid late September into October and mid-Late January) will require more time commitment. The incumbent is expected to meet set deadlines for scheduling, however specific times of producing work are at the discretion of the individual.

    The individual does not need to attend WGMHA office location for work.

    The individual will have access to their own equipment (computer) to perform the functions of the role and carry appropriate liability insurance.

    Required qualifications:

    • Ability to work independently and organize work tasks with minimal direction.

    • Ability to analyze and organize many variables.

    • Excellent attention to detail and precision in record keeping and documentation production.

    • Considerable proficiency in basic computer skills.

    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively interact with many key stakeholders listed above.

    • Ability to be objective, unbiased and consistent when dealing with all teams/programs.

    • Ability to respond quickly to questions, issues, etc.

    • Willing to learn software applications for scheduling purposes.
