uWaterloo: Waterloo Ravens Hockey Athletics Excellence Awards--2017/2018 recipients
Submitted By Lynn Mrakava on Tuesday, January 16, 2018
January 6th 2018 - Waterloo Ravens on hand at the Battle of Waterloo  to honour 2017-18 uW Hockey Athletics Excellence Awards Recipients.

Eric Diodati – Fourth Year- Defenceman

A 6-foot-1 Niagara Falls native is in his second year with the Warriors and fourth year of eligibility after playing two seasons with St. Thomas University, scoring five goals and 10 assists for 15 points in 47 games.  Prior to his U SPORTS career, Diodati played in 173 OHL games split between Mississauga and Windsor, where he racked up 49 points and 135 penalty minutes.  Diodati has been a steady defender for Brian Bourque’s squad and continues to log big time ice minutes for the black and gold.

Adam Bignell – Fourth Year – Defeceman ( absent from picture)

A 6-foot defenceman out of Kitchener is in his fourth year with the Warriors.  Bignell started with the Warriors in 2014 and played 17 games before returning to the OHL to play with the Belleville Bulls, a team he spent his entire major junior career with.  Bignell is forever remembered as the player who placed his jersey at centre ice after the final game of the Bulls franchise was played in 2015.  Bignell’s father Greg and uncle Todd  were also members of the Bulls in the late 1980’s and laying his jersey was a tribute to his family and the town of Belleville.  Bignell continues to be a key part of the Warriors blue line this season.

Dana Fairbarn – Fifth Year – Defenceman

Fairbarn is in her fifth and final year with the Warriors and has been a true leader on and off the ice for the Warriors since she joined the black and gold in 2013.  Fairbarn has been instrumental to Waterloo’s success on the backend and a big reason why Waterloo’s goals against have been lowered every year since she joined the squad.  On top of her on ice success, Fairbarn excels in the classroom having been an Academic All-Canadian every year she has competed with the Warriors and is a true leader in the community, volunteering her time for many initiatives such as Ravens mentorship, IU Council, Rise Up Warriors, Team-Up, Library Programs and more.

Emma Pye – First Year – Forward

Emma Pye is in her first year with the Warriors and is expected to be a big impact player for the black and gold from the get-go. Pye joined Waterloo after two seasons with the Toronto Leaside Jr. Wildcats, where she excelled on the top forward line posting 50 regular season points and five playoff points. Her speed is unmatched and she will undoubtedly see a lot of ice time in her rookie season.  Emma is also part of the Ravens mentorship program.

Congratulations to the Award Recipients!
