HPTP AA Coach Introductions
U18 AA - Tim Pell
My name is Tim Pell, and I am excited to be the 2023 – 2024 Waterloo Ravens HPTP U18AA Head Coach.
We have started planning the program for next year with the Ravens and there will be some exciting new components and changes to the program for 2023-24. My staff and I will be working hard to build a highly competitive team focused on player development and advancement to help meet their goals and aspirations
I have more than 20 years of coaching experience in both female and male hockey, as well as competitive ball. Locally, I have served as an AA Assistant Coach in the WGMHA/Ravens at both the U13AA and U15AA levels. I previously coached Junior C with the Port Dover Sailors and am also currently serving as head coach with U17 Haldimand Heat Tier 2 softball, and as an Assistant Coach for the U15A Haldimand Rivercats. Additionally, I worked for 5 seasons with Score International as Shooting and Power Skating Instructor in the GTA.
I love hockey - both as a player and as a coach/mentor. I have built programs as a member of the executive team in the Port Dover hockey association for minor hockey in addition to my other roles.
Coaching Philosophy:
The most important thing for myself, as a coach, is to develop passion for the game in an athlete. I want them to return the following year with a greater desire to succeed on and off the ice. The key to the success of athletes, in today’s game is confidence. I want to help build confident athletes and individuals. A confident player will make their teammates better, which in turn creates a more successful team. At this age, athletes need confidence not only in their ability as hockey players, but as individuals. They need to be confident enough to reach out to scouts, schools, etc. and be advocates for who they are and what they have to offer as a student, community member and athlete.
Individual skills are the foundation of creating a strong team. Skating, puck control, shooting, etc. are imperative. Building on players skills will be done in various forms throughout the year like power skating, skills sessions and at practices.
When it comes to team play, I believe that every player should know and be able to execute the systems, for example power plays and penalty kills. When each player understands their responsibility in a variety of situations, it makes our team stronger.
If you are considering trying out for this team, please reach out via email at [email protected] or text at 519-410-6199. We can arrange a time to discuss your interest and goals for next season and beyond. I also look forward to discussing my goals for the season with you!

U15 AA - Dave Mark
My name is Dave Mark and I am excited to be the 2023 – 2024 Waterloo Ravens HPTP U15AA Head Coach. Although this season is not over, plans for next year are underway and I am excited about building a highly competitive program and team.
I have 20 + years of coaching experience in both female and male hockey. I am NCCP HP 1 Certified and served as Head and Assistant Coach at the AA level for the last 8 years. Currently, I am Head Coach for the U18AA Cambridge Road Runners and prior to this year spent the last 2 season as Assistant Coach for U22 AA Elite Waterloo Kitchener Rangers program.
I am passionate about the sport / game of hockey, and I am committed to helping players develop to their fullest potential on and off the ice. I not only coach, but also serve as an executive member to my local hockey association for the last 15 years and currently serve as past president. In my younger days, I was a level 3 referee and also played competitively at the Jr. B, C and Senior A levels. Having served in all capacities (player, coach, referee, executive member), I believe I have a strong understanding of the game and see it from a lot of perspectives.
What is the Coaching Staff Looking for in a U15AA player?
-
Hockey players that have a passion to play highly competitive hockey and aspire to play in U22 AA Elite and at University/College.
-
Athleticism, individual skill, hockey sense and hockey knowledge.
-
Hockey players with a strong work ethic and commitment to improvement on and off the ice.
-
Hockey players that are committed to the sport and the team for the entirety of the season.
-
Focus and positive response to feedback.

U13 AA - Craig Haller
Craig is a D1 Certified Coach and has been coaching with the Ravens at various levels and age divisions over the last 8 years. Craig also enjoys coaching women’s field lacrosse. In addition to his coaching experience, Craig also brings his knowledge, understanding and passion as an educator to teach and motivate players to strive for their best.
As a Coach focused on development, Craig’s coaching philosophy is to lead, develop and promote a positive hockey experience. As a head coach he strongly believes that it is his job to not only be a leader on and off the ice but promote and encourage leadership in all of his athletes. He wants to develop each of his athletes' overall skill set, so they can achieve their personal goals and he wants them to have a positive hockey experience, so they enjoy coming to the rink every day.

U11 AA - Joel Widmeyer
My name is Joel Widmeyer and I am the head coach of the U11AA 2023/24 Raven’s hockey team.
I grew up playing hockey in the Waterloo region at the highest level possible through minor hockey. I graduated from minor hockey playing multiple seasons with the Jr. B Siskins and the Jr. B Guelph Holiday Platters. I ended my career playing 4 years with the University of Waterloo Warriors.
This will be the 6th year where I have coached hockey (boys and girls) as a head or assistant coach. Outside of advancing all team members’ skill level and understanding of the game of hockey, my vision is to pass along life skills including: strong work ethic, tenacity, positive attitudes and to approach winning and losing with grace and humility. I want to foster the players with a sense of belonging and a sense of accountability to something bigger than themselves: their team and teammates!
I am excited for the U11AA team to be incorporated in a modified HPTP program this year. As U11 in Waterloo is considered an open center, please, if your player is not from the Waterloo system, reach out to me at 5194971201 or [email protected] to introduce yourself and player.
Good luck and see you at the rink.
