Season Opener Success!
On Saturday October 6th the Waterloo Ravens Novice 4 team took to the ice against the Ayr Rockets in their season home opener! The girls were excited in the room prior to the game ready to out skate, out shoot and out cheer their opponents! The girls had made the goals of lining up properly for their face-offs, having quick line changes and cheering everyone on. It is easy to say that the girls certainly achieved all their goals. 

The Raven’s jumped to an early lead with Carlene Johnson netting the first goal of the season. After an outstanding goalie performance from Meghan Stewart Ayr was pressing hard for a goal. Late in the first period they tied it up, but the Ravens weren’t about to let that happen. Nicole Farnham let go a blistering shot from the slot with a great save from the Ayr goalie, but Grace White was there to knock in the rebound and put the Ravens back ahead 2-1 heading into the second period. 

Stewart continued to stand on her head having an outstanding game, helped out by the amazing defence pairings of Sohpie Labelle and Jamie Raetsen, and Claire Schonherr and Megan Bell! The defence worked all game clearing the puck out and keeping it out of the Ravens’ end. 

Looking to secure the win the Ravens kept pressing, and half way through the second period Johnson potted her second of the game on a breakaway with a pass from Brooke Seifred. Ayr battled back scoring one right after bring the score to 3-2. The Ravens were looking to extending their lead before the third. 

 Labelle took the puck with just over a minute left in the second period for an end to end defensive rush, skating right by all 5 Ayr players Labelle slid it past the Ayr goalie to put the Ravens up 4-2, the assists went to Johnson and Seifried. Looking to make up the difference Ayr came out hard in the third and netted one bring the score to a tight 4-3. But the Ravens battled hard. 

Outstanding defensive play from Schonherr and Bell kept the puck out of our end, while offensive rushes from Labelle and Raetsen helped the Ravens keep the lead. Mira Kochhar, Grace White, and Nicole Farnham kept the energy for the Ravens up, having numerous offensive chances! 
Chloe Prince, Chelsea Borque and Lillian Bell played a solid two way game stopping many scoring chances and setting up many others. 

 With time winding down Brooke Seifried chased the puck into the offensive end, blowing by the Ayr defense, with the puck in the corner Seifried made an amazing pass out front with Snyder high in the slot and Johnson rushing the net hard. A perfect pass to Johnson’s stick and big one timer put it past the goalie, and gave Johnson a hatrick! The assists went to Snyder and Seifried.

The Ravens finished the game strong, out cheering their opponent right to the end! With a 5-3 win in the bag, the Ravens are excited to suit up for their next game and keep the unbeaten streak alive!
