Successful Road Trip!
The Novice A Ravens earned 4 out of a possible 6 points this weekend.

The weekend started with a tough battle with the Cambridge Roadrunners.  After a pretty even back and forth first and second period, the game went into the third tied at zero.  However, Cambridge was able to open the scoring 4 minutes into the third period.  They doubled that lead with only 2 minutes to play.  With the goalie pulled for an extra attacker, the Ravens were able to score with 39 seconds left on a goal by Ava M with assists going to Avery C and Allie S.  The Ravens applied a lot of pressure in the last 30 seconds but were unable to get the equalizer.

The second away game was against the Mississauga Chiefs at the Iceland Arena.  This was the 'Slushy Game'.  Five goals and the girls were going to earn a slushy after the game.  If at least five different girls scored, Coach Steve would also get a slushy.  So with this sweet incentive in their minds, the Ravens came out on fire and Emma K was able to open the scoring 3 minutes into the game on assists by Kayla S and Faye K.  However Mississauga was able to tie up the score and the first period ended 1-1.  The Ravens dominated play for most of the second period and four minutes into the second period, the trio of Emma K, Kayla S and Faye K combined to double the lead.  The second goal really set the tone for the rest of the game.  Three minutes later, Kate M was able to get the puck at the top of the slot, spin around and fire a hard low shot that found the bottom left corner for her first goal of the regular season.  I think Kate was the last person to realize that she had scored!  Assists went to Lily M and Kayla S.  With the score 3-1 headed into the third period, Dana C added to the lead less than one minute in with an assist by Ava M.  Four minutes later Dana C got her second of the game with assists from Ava M and Sage G.  The girls had earned their slushys.  However, Coach Steve was looking for two more players to score to get to the 5 different scorers.  With 5 minutes left in the game, Ava M got into the act by scoring to give the Ravens a 6-1 lead with assists going to Kare M and Dana C making it 4 different scorers.  The girls applied a lot of pressure for the last 5 minutes but were unable to find the back of the net but what a fantastic game.  Six goals, with 4 different scorers and 11 out of a possible 12 assists which really showed how much of a team effort this victory was.  The girls played really well and were helped out by our fantastic goalies Shea H and Caitlyn H.  Final 6-1 victory.

Game three of our roadtrip was a quick turnaround on Sunday morning at Appleby Arena against the Burlington Barracudas.  This might have been the best game of the weekend for the Ravens.  The girls came out pumped and ready to play opening the scoring half way through the first period on a goal by Ava M with an assist from Hailey T.  The lead was doubled when Dana C got her first goal of the game scoring at 2:40 in the first period with assists from Avery C and Alexis C.  2-0 after 1.  With each and every player working hard and the Ravens dominating most of the play, the Ravens finally broke through in the last minute of the second period with a goal by Avery C, her first of the regular season, with assists to Kayla S and Kate M.  The third period was more of the same.  Dana C added two goals in the third to complete her first hat-trick of the season with assists going to Ava M on the first goal and Sage G and Ava M on the second goal.  The girls played as a team and earned the victory together.  The forwards dominated on the forecheck with F1, F2 and F3 all working hard.  The D played solid by pinching at the blueline and keeping the pressure on the Barracudas and the goaltending was solid when called upon.  The Ravens had 3 different scorers, 8 out of a possible 10 assists and our first regular season shutout.  Congratulations to Caitlyn H and Shea H.  A great team effort and one of the best games of the season so far.  Final 5-0 victory.
