Kyla Kowalik Tournament Report
Rebel Ravens Finish Third in Tough A Pool.

Despite playing against both tournament finalists in their pool, the coaching staff was impressed with the competitive fire shown over the weekend.
In game one, the girls faced a very talented Kitchener Mustangs team. Down 4-0 after the first period, the team managed to battle back, giving up a single goal in the second and scoring their lone goal (Taylor S. with her first goal ever!) in the third to win the single point for the period.
On short rest, the team faced an unknown quantity in the Barrie Grey team in game two. The girls played with a 'fire in their bellies' in this one, refusing to concede the result and scoring a couple in the third, losing 5-2. Goals by Natalie H. and Ashlyn M. paced the Rebel Ravens attack.
Saturday afternoon brought the skills challenge, with Natalie H., Jillian H. and Stephanie S. competing. Although none managed to finish first overall, all three represented the team well and all were competitive in their respective events.
Finally, Saturday evening brought  a solid victory and a measure of revenge against a Grand River Mustangs team that had previously tied the Ravens. The Ravens opened the scoring in the first period with Mackenzie scoring on a low hard shot. The second period saw a more concerted effort from Grand River, with Stephanie having to make several superb stops to maintain the one goal lead. In the third period, Mackenzie struck once again to give the team a little breathing room, while Stephanie sparkled in net again, with a couple highlight-reel saves to preserve the shutout. Victoria and Jillian, playing in new positions for the first time this season, looked comfortable and made several nice plays. Maddy displayed her usual total effort and was rewarded with two or three great breakaway chances. Sofie continues to improve every outing, with great tenacity along the boards in this game.
Once again a complete team victory was the judgement of the coaching staff - all the girls played with heart and made their teammates, coaches and parents proud. Way to go Rebel Ravens!
