Waterloo Cup Report
Rebel Ravens Fight Hard in Waterloo Cup Series.

Despite outplaying their opponents for most of both games, the Rebels Ravens were unable to solve the goaltending puzzle posed by Makayla in the Bantam #2 nets, and ultimately lost the Waterloo Cup Series.
In game one, the Rebel Ravens gave up a goal in the first period, only to storm back in the second and third with an outstanding effort. The team was wearing down Bantam #2, pinning them deep in their own zone with a relentless forecheck, with the only relief coming from an occasional end to end rush by Bantam #2's excellent forward Hayley. Stephanie was once again solid in net (this is a recording!), and the forward line of Mackenzie, Jillian and Hannah created a raft of excellent chances. Sofie's game continues to improve by leaps and bounds, and the coaches were impressed with Julia's effort playing out of position on the wing in place of the sorely missed Sarah. Emma had one of her best games of the season, pinching effectively on several occasions, and Maddy looked dangerous off the rush.
The girls came into game two of the series knowing that only a win would give them a shot at the championship, and were strong from the opening whistle. The defence stepped up in this game, with Victoria, Mckenna and Natalie all carrying the puck effectively and continuously getting shots through traffic to the opposing net. Ashlyn had the best clear chance early, deking through several players and sending a great shot in on the goal. Late in the first the opposition scored on a net front scramble which seemed to deflate the Rebel Ravens somewhat, but they struggled through the second and by the beginning of the third period they had once again grabbed the momentum - but Makayla shut the door. A second goal by Bantam #2 sealed the game for them. The coaches chose Natalie as the outstanding player for her excellent puck carrying play throughout the game.
This brings the 2013-2014 season for the Rebel Ravens to a close - a season filled with both difficulties and triumphs - ultimately a very rewarding experience. On behalf of the coaching staff, thanks to all the players and parents for all your dedication and hard work - hope to see you all at the rink next fall.
