2017-18 Midget A Tryouts begin April 27th
Dear Players and Parents,

Welcome to the Waterloo Ravens Midget A team tryouts!  The following information should answer most questions about the Midget A team and the tryout process.  If you have any further questions, please feel free to speak with me or a Ravens representative before or after the tryout sessions.

Coaching Team

Head Coach Chris Taylor [email protected] 519-500-5816

Assistant Coach Jeff Taylor [email protected] 519-621-7692

The rest of the Coaching Team will be chosen following player selection.

Commitment and Expectations

Participation in Rep hockey requires commitment, dedication and sacrifice on the part of coaches, players and families. At this age, that means juggling work schedules and effectively planning homework and other commitments so that all games, practices and other team events can be attended. There may be in excess of 100 ice times including games, tournaments and practices. We may also have a weekly 1 hour dry-land training session from October to January.

Please let the coaching team know as soon as possible if you are not prepared as a player to make the commitment or as a parent to have your daughter play at the midget a level. If you are only at try-outs to get skating time please let us know. Any player not intending to play for the team will be asked not to return after the first tryout.

Try-Outs

During the tryout sessions, players will be evaluated on work ethic, hockey knowledge and individual skills. We are looking for hard-working team players who play heads-up hockey and demonstrate leadership, positive attitude, creativity and a well-disciplined approach to the game. We will be working with 5-6 independent evaluators throughout tryouts to assist with the selection of the team.

Imports

The Waterloo Ravens constitution does not allow import players to tryout for the Midget A team. However, there is a shortage of goalies at the Midget level, so import goalies will be permitted to tryout. If you have any questions about this, please contact me or one of the board members listed below.

Releases

After the second tryout, we will be posting jersey numbers on the Ravens website of the players invited to return for the next try-out. The jersey number assigned at the first try-out will be the number posted.  If you wish to speak with the head coach after your daughter has been released, I will be happy to speak with you 24 hours after the release.

We ask parents to be mindful and respectful of the task that the coaching staff faces in selecting the final team.

Reminders

  • Please arrive 30-45 minutes prior to ice time in order to register
  • Players are to be dressed, ready to go on the ice 10 minutes before the scheduled ice time.
  • For exhibition games please arrive a minimum of 45 minutes prior to the scheduled ice time
  • Try-out jerseys are to be returned at the end of each try-out
  • Please inform a member of the Coaching Team if your daughter is unable to attend a try-out or is withdrawing from the try-out process.

Regular Season

The Waterloo Ravens are members of the Lower Lakes Female Hockey League. The tentative loop for Midget A will be communicated to you as soon as it’s finalized. The game schedule will be available after the LLFHL scheduling meeting in late September.

Tournaments

We are already booked in the following Tournaments, and will book at least 3 more:

  • Oakville Hornets 2017 Harvest Classic September 15-17, 2017
  • Waterloo Ravens Fall Challenge Cup November 2-5, 2017

We hope to qualify for the following Tournaments:

LLFHL Championship Tournament Late March 2018

Provincial Championship Tournament Early April 2018

Team Fees

Successful players are responsible for paying the following: Ravens General Registration Fees, Rep Fees and Team Fees. The Registration ($545) and Rep ($680) Fees are set by the WGMHA. We expect the Team Fees to be approximately $915 per player. The full team budget will be reviewed at the Parent/Player meeting.

Parent/Player Meeting

Our first Parent/Player meeting will be held on Wednesday, May 3 from 7:30pm to 9:00pm at RIM Park. It is imperative that at least one parent attend the meeting with your daughter. We will be approving the team budget, reviewing the plans for the 2017-18 season and filling important volunteer roles for our team.
