The Waterloo Ravens Atom1 team travelled to Ajax to compete in the Durham West House League Tournament on November 22 to 24. They started off the round robin hot, scoring 3 goals in the first period against the Whitby Snapping Turtles and held on to win 3-1. In the final two games of the round robin, they took care of the Whitby RH Chilli Peppers 7-1 and the Nepean Wildcats AH6 10-4. The girls earned first place overall and advanced to the semi-finals. In the semi-final game, Atom1 found themselves down 2-0 with 7 minutes to play. However, the girls were determined not to be denied and found something extra to fight back, securing a 3-2 win over the Whitby Snapping Turtles to advance to finals. In the final, Atom1 faced the Whitby Huskies and led most of the game until Whitby tied the score at 2 with 19 seconds left to play. Overtime didn’t decide the winner and the game went to a shootout, where the Ravens prevailed 2-1. The coaching staff and parents are so proud of the girl’s refusal to quit and their teamwork.
