Mandatory Covid-19 Vaccinations
Submitted By WGMHA President on Thursday, September 2, 2021
Dear Ravens,

As you know On Sept. 1, 2021, the Government of Ontario announced its decision to require proof of full vaccination (two doses plus 14-day waiting period) for access to select indoor facilities, beginning on Sept. 22, 2021. We received notification tonight that OWHA’s Board of Directors met tonight (Thursday, September 2nd), and will be requiring (subject to any additional developments in this area) that, as a condition of participation in the OWHA, players and other participants who were born before 2010 be fully vaccinated as soon as possible and by no later October 17, 2021.

Based on the Government’s announcement, the mandatory vaccination requirements will include indoor “Facilities used for sports and fitness activities and personal fitness training, such as gyms, fitness and recreational facilities with the exception of youth recreational sport”. In light of this development and of various trends, OWHA’s Board of Directors met tonight (Thursday, September 2nd), and will be requiring (subject to any additional developments in this area) that, as a condition of participation in the OWHA, players and other participants who were born before 2010 be fully vaccinated as soon as possible and by no later October 17, 2021.

Your Ravens’ Board has been working hard over the past few weeks to determine an appropriate Vaccination Policy for our Association. We welcome the clarification and direction from OWHA regarding mandatory vaccinations. I appreciate there will still be many questions on how the Vaccination Policy will work (e.g., are there exemptions? What about testing? consequences for not being vaccinated, etc.). We will be participating in the OWHA Associations web call on Wednesday, September 8th.  We hope to be able to release the full details of the Ravens’ policy shortly after that call.

At this point, we strongly encourage all players, coaches, and volunteers who are eligible to get vaccinated if you have not already done so.  The time frame for being fully vaccinated ( 2 doses plus a 14-day waiting period is tight).

Please also continue to follow public health guidelines – wear a mask, keep social distance, and wash your hands.

The long weekend is coming up – enjoy the last long weekend of the summer!

Be Kind, Be Safe, Stay Healthy,

Sandra
