City of Waterloo Fee Assistance Leisure Access Program

The City of Waterloo offers assistance to those who can't afford to pay fees for affiliated recreation, leisure, arts and culture programs:

  • successful applicants get a $300 credit per person, per year
  • credit can be used for city-run programs, and affiliated minor sports, or arts and culture programs
  • credit can't be transferred to future years or refunded
  • applicants need to re-apply every year

City of Waterloo Assistance Funding Year:

The City of Waterloo accepts applications all year however the funding year runs from December 1st of one year until November 30th of the following year. If an application for funding is submitted after the end of October, it will be considered an application in the next funding year, starting December 1st.

Canadian Tire Jumpstart

Sport has the power to unite communities and the nation – in its absence, the importance of sport and play became more apparent than ever. Thanks to a generous gift of $12 million from Canadian Tire Corporation to our Sport Relief Fund, we have gotten 225,000 kids back into sport and play this year. Back to building friendships and making memories that will last a lifetime.

Grindstone Award Foundation


The Grindstone Award Foundation is here to remove financial barriers for girls to play hockey. We are committed to helping girls across Canada play the game they love and to ultimately grow the female game. 

To be eligible for the registration and equipment grants, families must first meet specific financial criteria as per Revenue Canada’s Low-Income Cut-Offs (LICO) chart. Players must be under the age of 19 at the time of application.

KidSport Kitchener Waterloo Chapter
WGHA has been approved to be a Partner with the KidSport Kitchener Waterloo Chapter!

Kidsport provides grants to help cover the cost of registration and equipment fees so that all kids aged 18 and under in Kitchener Waterloo can participate in eligible dance or sport programs of their choice. The KW Chapter accepts applications and administers grants of up to $300 per child/year for families who live in Kitchener Waterloo.
