U8 U9 U11 Power Skating Program - Fall 2021
Submitted By Ryan Terpstra on Thursday, September 30, 2021
The Waterloo Ravens have setup power skating sessions for U8, U9 and U11 players. There are two sessions currently offered with a third session to be released at a later date. Each session is limited to the first 20 registrants and each session costs $80 for 4 hours of instruction.

In order to accommodate work and school schedules the ice time chosen was Wednesdays at 6:30am, starting October 6th. Sessions will run as follows:
FULL - Session 1 (first 4 weeks) Power 2, $80 per registrant. Power 2 for those proficient with skating already.
3 spots left - Session 2 (next 4 weeks) Power 1, $80 per registrant. Power 1 for those newer to skating.
Not open for registration yet - Session 3 (last 4 weeks) Power TBD, $80 per registrant. Level TBD.

To register, login to RAMP and you will find each program listed as follows:

FULL - Power 2, Session 1, Wednesdays @ 6:30am, October 6, 13, 20, 27. This is recommended for players somewhat proficient with skating. Power 2 will work on advancing skills in stopping with 2 feet both ways, forward crossovers and power turns. Skaters will work on quick starts, backward skating and pivoting from forward to backwards (and backwards to forwards). Backward crossovers will be introduced and worked on.
The sessions will be led by Skate Canada National Coach, Rebecca Babb.
$80 for 4 ice times. 20 participants max.

3 spots left (23Oct) - Power 1, Session 2, Wednesdays @ 6:30am, November 10, 17, 24, Dec 1. This is recommended for newer skaters. Power 1 will be advancing skills with proper strides and balance, stopping with two feet, and working on using their inside and outside edges when doing power turns. It will also work on taking full strides with forward crossovers.

The sessions will be led by Skate Canada National Coach, Rebecca Babb.

$80 for 4 ice times. 20 participants max.

This is an excellent chance to get expert instruction in skating, a fundamental skill required to play hockey. This is also a great price @ $20 per ice time. The WGMHA is excited to offer this program. Session 3 will follow in December for 4 more weeks with the level determined based on player needs.
