Coach Biographies / Statements

U18AA - Dave Morrow

My name is David Morrow, and I am excited to be the 2022 – 2023 Waterloo Ravens HPTP U18AA Head Coach. Although this season is not over, plans for next year are underway and the coaching staff and I are excited about building a highly competitive team.

I have 30+ years of coaching experience and I am HP1 Certified. I have been involved with the Waterloo Girls Minor Hockey Association as a parent, member of the Board, assistant coach, and head coach at both the AA and A levels. I am passionate about the sport of hockey, and I am committed to helping players develop to their fullest potential on and off the ice.

As a coach I set high standards for myself and I expect the same of my bench staff. Joining me on the coaching staff for the 2022-2023 season will be:

  • Assistant Coach Autumn Grant – Autumn is a Ravens “AA” alumni and was an assistant coach with the 2019-2020 Waterloo Ravens U15AA team.

  • Assistant Coach (Video & Special Teams) Keira Morrow – Keira is a Ravens “AA” alumni and was an assistant coach with the 2019-2020 Waterloo Ravens U15AA team. She is presently on a NCAA DI Softball scholarship.

I want to take this opportunity to direct all players interested in trying out for the team to the December 13, 2021, HPTP-High Performance Training Program for AA/A article posted on this website. In this article you will learn more about the program and the support that our team will have from our PWHL- Waterloo Ravens - KW Rangers Coaching Staff, the University of Waterloo Coaching staff and Laura McIntosh (WGMHA HPTP Coordinator and PWHPA Head Coach).

What is the Coaching Staff Looking for in a U18AA player?

  • Hockey players that have a passion to play highly competitive hockey and aspire to play in the PWHL and at University/College.

  • Hockey players with a strong work ethic and commitment to improvement on and off the ice.

  • Hockey players that are committed to the sport and the team for the entirety of the season.

  • Athleticism, individual skill, hockey sense and hockey knowledge.

  • Good communication skills.

  • Focus and positive response to feedback.

  • Community Involvement/Focus: Excellent representative of the Waterloo Raven’s organization.

What Can You Do Before Try-Outs Begin?

If you are thinking about trying out for this team, reach out and contact me by telephone/text (226-218-0014) or email ([email protected]) so that I and the coaching staff know some things about who you are and so that you have an opportunity to ask questions of us about the team and our season plan. I know it can be difficult to reach out, but please do because taking risks and communication will be vital to our success as a team!

If you do reach out, please be prepared to tell me about the following:

  1. Who you are, where you live and what school you go to.

  2. Your preferred position and left or right shot.  Goalies: Blocker and Glove hand.

  3. Your best hopes for the 2022-23 Season!

U18A - Darrell Husk

U15AA - Stephen Ahlberg

U15 A - Ryan Cartier

Hello, I have been involved in hockey almost my entire life.  Growing up in Waterloo I played minor hockey at the AAA level.  After my minor hockey was finished I played 2 years of junior for the Wellesley Apple jacks, where we won the all Ontario title.  Following those years I played Junior B for the Elmira Sugar Kings and the Kitchener Dutchmen, Captaining the Dutchmen in my final year.

I have been coaching with the Ravens for the last 4 years.  In those years I have held varies positions, from head coach to on ice staff.  I have a great passion for hockey and coaching. I’d like to instill an attitude of never giving up and competing to the end, to teach the girls how to operate as a team on and off the ice

U13 AA - James Craig

Born in Cambridge, James has been in Waterloo Region for the better part of 40 years with most of
them in Waterloo. He is a very active volunteer through non-profit and volunteer boards in the City as
well as approaching his 10th year coaching hockey.

With 2 children in representative hockey, he has coached from Novice (U9) up to Bantam (U15) with his son and
back again with his daughter. This has allowed James to appreciate the commitment, dedication and
hard work required by all. Through this experience he has been able to see the game from both the
boys’ and girls’ association eyes. James also enjoys coaching baseball with successful experience in
house league, Select and Tier 2.

More recently, James coached Ravens Novice (U9) B in 2018/2019, Assistant Coach with Atom (U11) A in
2019/2020, Head Coach with Atom (U11) AA in 2020/2021 and now Head Coach at U13 AA. He currently holds
his D1 – Trained Designation and is also a trainer. Through his active participation he has had roles with
many hockey teams including head coach, assistance coach, trainer, treasurer, statistician, parent
representative, photographer, website updates and manager.
