Hockey Without Borders Follow Up
Submitted By WGMHA on Mon 01 09, 23
Ravens Families,
As a follow up to my previous posting introducing “hockey without borders”, the U13B team completed this years’ event with a home date with the Brampton 45's team on Sunday, January 8th in Waterloo.
Please see the article and associated pictures.
Enjoy!
Our U13B team had an amazing day at RIM Park celebrating “hockey without borders” and the inclusivity that our great sport of Hockey is able to bring. This event was also attended by members of our WGMHA Board of Directors. Very much appreciated for those who were able to attend.
We spent the afternoon with the Brampton 45’s Special Needs Hockey Team which included the following:
- Pre-game skate with our U22AA Elite team, U13B Rep Team and the Brampton 45’s special needs team
- Pre-game, announcing both teams' players on the blue lines with a professional voice over
- Ceremonial puck drop performed by our WGMHA President Sandra Hanmer and the Mayor of the City of Waterloo, Dorothy McCabe
- Singing of O’ Canada by all
- 60-minute running time game with players from both teams mixed into a “white and black” game (team white won 10-9)
- Our event was covered by CTV News and professional photographer Michelle Graham from FSF (Focus Sport Fotos)
- Closing celebration at RIM Park after the game for a banner signing, snacks and drinks, player giveaways and goodbye for another year!

A special thank you to the families of our U13B team that assisted me with this event. Without this group effort, we couldn’t have made it happen!
Thank you to Charlie Spano (Head Coach – Brampton 45’s) along with his staff and players for allowing our U13B girls the privilege of sharing this special 2-day event with such a fantastic team!
