Update 2020-21 Season as of June 30 2020

Dear Ravens Players, Families and Coaching Staff,

Happy Summer!

We want to provide a further update regarding hockey for the 2020-21. We know everyone is anxious to know what’s happening for next season.

Recently we participated in the third video conference hosted by OWHA regarding COVID-19 and preparing for 2020-21.

Highlights from the call include:

•       at this point, there are still no definitive answers as to what will happen next season;

•     a Return to Play Framework has been released by the province – this document guides Provincial Sports Organizations (PSOs) like the OWHA to prepare a plan for return to sport. The Return to Play Framework is available on the Ravens Website

•      OWHA Return to Play Protocols Stage 1 are expected to be approved by the OWHA Board soon. Once we have the OWHA approved Return to Play Protocols for Stage 1 we will be able to roll out the Ravens plans

•       Associations are encouraged to open up registration however not to collect fees. (Ravens Registration opens July 3 2020)

•       Its unlikely that there will be any tournaments during the 2020-21 season

•       Final decisions regarding Provincials 2021 have not yet been made

•      Hockey Canada is reviewing equipment such as face shields in helmets. No decision has been made. We know that some providers (e.g. Bauer) have started selling helmets with shields. Suggest that if you need a new helmet, wait until final directions come from Hockey Canada

•       It is very unlikely that we will be back playing hockey in September.

Your WGMHA Board has been and will continue to monitor the situation and plan as much as we can for next season. We are also working closely with the City of Waterloo Staff to understand the protocols we will have to follow when we are using the facilities.

What can Ravens do?

  • Complete the registration package for the 2020-21 season

Help us plan by completing your registration for 2020-21. Registration opens July 3, 2020. We are not collecting any payments right now. You will be notified once we know what programming will look like for 2020-21 and what the fees will be. There is no obligation to stay in a program if you change your mind once you see the fee schedule.

  • Keep Hockey Ready:

In order to provide an opportunity for you to stay “hockey ready” and have some fun at the same time, Andrew Hopf Lead Strength and Conditioning Coach, UW and Waterloo Ravens Development Coordinator Laura McIntosh have put together some simple at home workouts you can do.  For more information on the programs, please check out the Ravens website.  Both Andrew and Laura are happy to answer any questions about the programs.  These virtual programs will be updated throughout the summer

  • Stay connected with your Ravens friends through means that your parents say are okay.

We will continue to provide updates as we are able. In the meantime, please don’t hesitate to reach out if you have any questions ([email protected] ).

Be Safe, Stay Healthy, Be Kind,

Take care,

Sandra
