The following are the key 2023 tryout dates:
-
For players registered with WGMHA in the 2022-2023 season, tryouts will commence on April 17th. There will be a registration package in RAMP for these players. Players currently registered with WGMHA only need to register and pay the $65 fee once and are then eligible to attend all tryouts at all tiers in their division. Per the OWHA, registration can open on or after March 20th, 2023. Once schedules are finalized, they will be available on the Tryout Schedule page on the Ravens website.
-
OWHA is allowing non-WGMHA players to join tryouts as of April 19th. For clarity, players playing in a different association in the current 2022-2023 season are in this category. There will be registration packages in RAMP for these players. Players not currently registered with WGMHA must re-register and pay the $50 fee for each tier they attend in their division (for example, if a player attends AA tryouts and is reassigned to A, they must re-register and pay again to attend A tryouts). Per the OWHA, registration can open on or after March 20th, 2023. Once schedules are finalized, they will be available on the Tryout Schedule page on the Ravens website.
- Mandatory Goalie Evaluation Sessions – All goalies must attend the Goalie Evaluation session for the team they are trying out for, in addition to regular team tryouts. UW Assistant Coach and Goalie Coach Jory Elliott will be running the goalie evaluations for all teams. Import goalies are not eligible for any WGMHA goalie evaluations held before April 19th.
- Tier 2 tryouts will start at the completion of AA tryouts and Tier 3 tryouts will start at the completion of Tier 2 tryouts.
Important - Please read these notes regarding this tryout season:
- Any current WGMHA players intending to tryout with the U22 AA KW Rangers and currently part of a younger division must register in their current division and email [email protected] indicating that they also wish to tryout in the U22 division so that they can be added to the U22 tryout list.
- Imports/ Non-Current WGMHA Players – All players/goalies who played for an OWHA team other than the Ravens in the past season must register for tryouts online and pay according to the instructions on our registration system. Valid Permission to Tryout (PTT) Forms must be emailed to [email protected] or be presented upon checking in at the first tryout before being allowed on the ice.
- When registering for tryouts, register for the applicable age group for the 2023-2024 season based on birth year as stated in the registration package.
For WGMHA players requiring a Permission To Tryout (PTT) Form: Please use the on-line form found here (also found via the Forms tab of the Ravens website home page under the General Forms tab). Requests must be submitted in this format only. Completed on-line forms will be automatically sent to a WGMHA representative for review; please allow at least 48 hours for the completion of a PTT form request.
To review WGMHA policies related to Player Imports, Player Movement and Team Selection, please refer to the WGMHA Manual of Operations located here, specifically those policies found under Section 6 - Hockey Operations.
A Permission To Tryout Form is not required for the following:

- Moving from boys' hockey to girls’ hockey (note that players that were part of an OWHA organization prior to moving to boys' hockey must have already been released by the OWHA)
- Has never played hockey and has never been registered with an association (boys or girls)
All players/goalies are required to attend either the first or second tryout for each of the teams they are trying out for. If a player has a conflict and cannot attend, please contact Steve Woods, Director of Rep ([email protected]) and the responsible coach ASAP. Exceptions may be made for late arriving PTS players and those released at higher level tryouts but please contact the Director of Rep and the responsible coach ASAP.
