Our captain this week, Claire B., is one of the players I’ve coached the longest, and
it’s been a lot of fun to watch her confidence grow every year. From time to
time, I have to remind her that she’s human and bound to make mistakes on the
ice—but it’s clear she always wants to do her best for her teammates and wears
her heart on her sleeve. I can always count on her to give her all in every
game! ...
Claire’s skills have steadily progressed, and this season, it’s become clear that when she gets to her strong side in the offensive zone, just fire her a pass—she’ll hammer it! I have a feeling she’s developing a dangerous shot, so consider this a warning to her future coaches: wear shin pads in practice!
Her speech before the game left me with little to add to my own pre-game talk—a great problem to have. She spoke to the team about keeping their heads up, finding open space, passing the puck, and skating hard. Maybe coaching is in her future once her minor hockey career comes to an end?
Great work by all the girls on another fantastic weekend of hockey!
