Learn to Skate for Girls Hockey

The Waterloo Ravens “Learn to Skate for Girls Hockey” is a 14 session program designed to teach girls how to skate in order to play girls hockey.
This Learn to Skate program is for girls aged 4-6. The program cost is $149.00 and includes hockey equipment, (except skates) a stick and bag will be provided.

The Learn to Skate program is led and instructed by members of the Men’s & Women’s Hockey teams at the University of Waterloo. In order for the best experience for the participants and for us to be able to run the best program possible, additional volunteers are required to assist on ice.

First Date will be confirmed and posted in late August/September. Last season, the program started on Sunday October 22nd.

Please note skates are not part of the provided equipment with the Learn to Skate Program, you are expected to supply your own. Helmets, a stick and bag are provided. If you already have all or some your own equipment you prefer to use that is fine as well. This will allow us to help more girls Learn to Skate in the future.

* Please note: This is a "learn to skate" program for girls hockey. Girls will wear full hockey gear.

* Equipment provided including sticks. NO SKATES are provided. Make sure your daughter’s skates are sharpened and ready to go for the first session.

*If you are confused about how the equipment goes on, just ask, someone will be willing to help you out.

*Please bring a water bottle for your daughter – one that she can sip from (long nozzle) or squirt through her facemask on her helmet (so coaches & volunteers aren’t buckling and unbuckling helmets all session. It should be clearly marked with your daughter’s name for her to find.

*As a help for instructors, please write your daughter's name on some tape on her helmet.  Addressing the girls by name really improves their experience.

*For Learn to Skate participants, you may supply your own skating aids.  However, the goal will be to get these girls skating independently as soon as possible.

THIS PROGRAM IS FOR ALL HOWEVER CITY OF WATERLOO RESIDENTS ARE GIVEN PREFERENCE

Volunteers:

VOLUNTEER instructors are an integral part of this program.

Non-participants will not be allowed on the ice without being a registered volunteer.  This requirement is due to safety and insurance concerns. To be on the ice, you must be wearing skates and a helmet.

Current Waterloo Ravens players are encouraged to volunteer!
