Waterloo Ravens U13 #1 Win the Brock Jr. Badgers Tournament in St. Catharines, the Waterloo Cup, and the KGLL Pool A Championship

The U13#1 team travelled to St Catharines to compete against 11 other teams in the Brock Jr. Badgers tournament on April 1st to April 3rd. The Ravens finished first in their pool outscoring their opponents 16-0 to secure their spot in the semi final. In the semi final, they faced a determined Ancaster Blue team. The Ravens marched out to 2-0 lead in the first period before the game tighten up. Though there was no scoring in the second period, both the Ravens and Ancaster had chances to score. In the third period, with the Ravens hanging on to 1 goal lead, Ancaster was able to tie the game with only 4 seconds left to force overtime. In the 4 on 4 overtime, both teams had quality chances to score but neither team could get one in the net. The Ravens were finally able to get one past the goalie with 1:30 left to punch their ticket to the final. In the final, they faced off against the Kingston Gold Cobras, who are the best team in the Greater Kingston area. The Ravens knew it would be a great matchup and their toughest test of the tournament. The Ravens and Gold Cobras battled hard through two scoreless periods, with both teams having great scoring chances only to be stopped by the goalies. The Ravens were determined to not be denied and scored with 3 minutes remaining. They would later add an empty netter with less than a minute to win gold, 2-0.

After winning gold in St Catharines, the Ravens travelled back to Waterloo Sunday night to compete for the Waterloo Cup against U13#3. Though the girls were exhausted, they worked together as a team to win the Waterloo Cup, 3-1.

The next day, the team played in yet another game; their 8th in 5 days. This one for the championship of Pool A of the KGLL against U13#4, the best team they played all year. It was an exciting game from start to finish. The girls found themselves in an unfamiliar position of being down 2-0 entering the third period. Though they were tired, they focused on getting one goal to get back into the game and were able to do just that 15 seconds into the period. With the momentum swung back to U13#1, they refused to quit working and were able to get the equalizer with 6 minutes remaining. Regulation ended tied 2-2 and overtime wouldn’t solve anything. It was off to a shootout, something that they hadn’t experienced all year. U13#1 would score on their first shot and stop all three of U13#4 attempts to win the league championship!

U13#1 was able to accomplish something unheard of - winning 3 gold medals in a little over 24 hours. INCREDIBLE!! The coaching staff and parents were in awe of their dedication, team work and determination.

CONGRATULATIONS U13 #1!! It’s a season you will remember for the rest of your lives.
