Welcome to 2018-19 Atom Tier 1 !

My name is Scott Heimpel and I am the coach of this year’s Waterloo Ravens Atom Tier 1 team! I am super excited and can’t wait to get started. Tryouts are quickly approaching and I just wanted to take a few moments to introduce myself and to give a brief summary of what you can expect for this upcoming season.

My approach is simple, getting back to the basics. Developing skills and hockey fundamentals. Skating, stick handling, tape to tape passes, power plays, penalty kills and most importantly the positional play.  Allowing the girls to achieve 100% of their ability. I believe as coach it is my responsibility to find out what the individual players need, and develop a plan so they can be successful.

A team is not just made up of one player’s talent. I do believe in individual skill development; however skill alone cannot define a successful team.  A team that supports each other’s unique qualities, is a team that builds lasting relationships, that is how I define success. I am fully dedicated to provide each player with leadership opportunities on and off the ice

I will encourage the girls to never give up, or to be afraid to try something new. To believe in themselves and their goals, so they can strive to be the best they can be. I think it is critical to teach each player how to react from a loss, just as much as it is important to teach each player how to be excited for a win. I do not believe winning is everything although a goal of any competitive team is to compete hard to be successful.

I believe it is a privilege and an honour to be a coach. I want to take my experience, knowledge, and passion for player development, to teach the players that hard work is rewarding and that not everything comes easy.

I look forward to seeing everyone at the rink, get ready to play hard and give it your all. If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to contact me.
