Pee Wee Tier II Try-Out Information
Hello everyone,

My name is David Morrow and on behalf of the coaching staff I would like to welcome you to the Waterloo Ravens Pee Wee Tier II team try-outs. This post is intended to provide some general information and expectations on the try-out process as well as the upcoming season.

If you have any questions, please feel free to speak with me before or after any of the try-out sessions or contact me at 226-218-0014 or [email protected]

Coaching Staff:
David Morrow: Head Coach
Peter Guinta: Assistant Coach
Keira Morrow: Assistant Coach

The rest of the coaching/bench staff will be chosen following the team selection process.

Commitment & Expectations: Participation in competitive hockey requires commitment, dedication, and sacrifice on the part of coaches, players, and families. There may be in excess of 80 ice times including games, tournaments and practices. Further, we are planning for dry land training from October to March.

The coaching staff encourages participation in other sports and personal pursuits, but do expect that players are committed first and foremost to the hockey team for the duration of the season.

Please Note: We also remind parents to be mindful of the task that the coaches face in selecting the final team. Please let any member of the coaching staff know as soon as possible if your child is attending try-outs for ice time only and has no intention of playing for the team. Any player who does not intend to play for the team is asked not to return after the first try-out.

Try-Out Process: Players will be evaluated on their individual skill, hockey knowledge, and work ethic during the try-out process and on ice sessions. As coaches, we will be looking for a strong work commitment, a positive/team first attitude, strong skating and puck handling skills, creativity, and a disciplined approach to the game.

Try-Out Schedule: The schedule is posted on the website and although we do not expect any changes, please monitor the website as any date or time change will be reflected there.

Important Notice:  We will play two try-out exhibition games against Woolwich on Saturday September 8, 2018. There will be no releases following the first game in Elmira. All players invited to attend try-outs on September 8, 2018, must be prepared to play in one of the two games and may be asked to play in both games unless otherwise informed by the coaching staff. Therefore, all invited players are asked to attend both games with their equipment and be prepared to play.

Imports: Two imports (non-residents of Waterloo) are allowed at the Pee Wee Tier II level.

Releases: There will be no releases following the first try-out. After the second try-out, we will be posting jersey numbers on the Pee Wee Tier II page of the Raven’s website of the players invited to return for the next try-out. The number posted will be the jersey number worn by the player in the most recent try-out.

Try-Out Reminders:

  • Please arrive 30-45 minutes prior to the first two ice times to register
  • Please ensure players are dressed at least 10 minutes before the scheduled ice time.
  • Players are to arrive 45 minutes prior to scheduled try-out exhibition games
  • Try-out jersey/pinny must be returned after each try-out
  • Please inform a member of the coaching staff if your daughter is unable to attend a try-out or is withdrawing from the try-out process.

Regular Season: The Waterloo Ravens are members of the Lower Lakes Female Hockey League (LLFHL). The “loop” (division) will be formalized just prior to the LLFHL scheduling meeting on September 30, 2018. A team schedule will be provided as soon as it becomes available. Although it is likely the majority of opponents will be located within approximately 120 KM of Waterloo, it is possible that the team will play regular season games as far away as Windsor.

Tournaments: The Waterloo Ravens organization does not restrict the number of tournaments but does provide guidelines in the Manual of Operations. This year, we expect to enter up to four tournaments and those we are confirmed to attend have been posted on the team website.

Team Fees: Successful players are responsible for paying the following: Ravens General Registration Fees, Rep Fees and Team Fees. The Registration and Rep ($640) Fees are set by the WGMHA. The full team budget, including team fees, will be reviewed at the Parent/Player meeting after try-outs.

Parent Meeting: There will be a Parent Meeting soon after the team is made for the parents of the players who are named to the team. Players are expected to attend this meeting. It is imperative that at least one parent attend the meeting with your daughter. We will be approving the team budget, reviewing the plans for the 2018-19 season and filling important volunteer roles for our team.

Best of Luck to all players in the try–out process!

Coach Dave
