Oakville Harvest Classic Champions
Congratulations to the Waterloo Ravens Novice A who captured the Oakville Harvest Classic Hockey Tournament this past weekend. The girls worked as a team and put out a strong effort each and every game to capture the title.
The Ravens started the round robin with a 7-0 victory over the London Devilettes. Waterloo was lead by Avery C who scored a hat-trick, while Grace R, Kayla S, Faye K, and Ava M all chipped in with singles. Strong defence and the goaltending duo of Shea H and Caitlyn H preserved the shutout. In Game 2, Waterloo tied the Clarington Flames 3-3 after leading most of the game. The scoring was supplied by Ava M and two goals from Avery C. In Game 3, Waterloo faced the Burlington Barracudas to see who would make the semi-finals. There was no questions about it! After opening the scoring for the third straight game, the Ravens cruised to a 5-0 victory from a strong offensive and defensive team effort! Two goals were supplied by Dana C with Ava M, Avery C and Emma K all contributing singles. This left the team First in Pool B with a record of 3-0-1. In the semi-finals, Waterloo faced the North York Storm who finished 2nd in Pool A. With 2 goals in the first period by Dana C and Ava M, the Ravens were able to hold off the Storm and finish with a 2-1 victory. With a solid team effort to shut down a couple of the powerful Storm players, the Ravens showed they could win a close one! Off to the finals!
In the finals, Waterloo met the Cambridge Roadrunners. Again with a solid team effort with every player contributing, Waterloo raced to a 2-0 lead in the first period with goals by Emma K and Alexis C and the strong goal tending of Shea H. Waterloo added two more goals in the third period with goals by Ava M and Avery C before the lights went out! Literally. We had a 10-15 minutes delay when the power went out at the arena. After the delay, the Ravens continued their strong play and shut down the Cambridge sharpshooters and cruised to victory 4-1 with some timely saves by Caitlyn H and strong defensive play. Overall, it was a solid TEAM effort that showed the girls had a lot of HEART and outworked the Cambridge team for the victory. Congratulations to the team as the victory was well deserved!
