Ravens take down the Hornets!
The Novice A Ravens handed the Oakville Hornets their first league loss of the season.
After a successful road trip, the Waterloo Novice A Ravens took on the undefeated Oakville Hornets at the Waterloo Rec Centre on Sunday afternoon. After a back and forth first 5 minutes, Ava M took the puck from our end and made some nifty moves around a couple of Oakville players to streak in on the Oakville goalie. The goalie made a nice pad save but let out a big rebound. Dana C had been following the play and was there on the doorstep to clean up the rebound and open the scoring for the Ravens at 6:09 of the first period. There were some tense moments but some solid goaltending by Shea H kept the lead for the Ravens after one period.
The second period saw a see-saw battle with two very strong teams working hard for the puck. With less than a minute left in the period, there was a scramble in front of the Oakville net and Ava M was able to slide it under the goalie from a shot by Dana C. Sage G also drew an assist on the goal. 2-0 for the Ravens after two periods.
In the third period, Oakville came out on fire and after a scramble in the neutral zone, one of the Hornets picked up the puck and made a nice deke to cut the Ravens lead to 1 after just 1 minute into the third. Played continued in the third period with both teams applying pressure to score the next goal. There was lots of end to end action. With the face off deep in Oakville's zone, Ava M won a clean faceoff right on the stick of Avery C who one-timed it into the back of the net from the top of the slot. After finishing off the last minute plus, the Ravens had won the game 3-1 and handed the Oakville Hornets their first regular season loss.
The whole team played well and worked hard for a team victory!!!
