Midget DS Reboot
Submitted By Scott Murphy on Tuesday, February 4, 2020
Attention Midget HL Players

We have decided to try and reboot the Ravens’ Midget DS program in a new format.  The new format would essentially be a tournament team.  This will keep your commitment and cost low but still allow for the enjoyment of playing competitive hockey at the DS level.

The plan is to hold a tryout on Feb 13th at 5:30pm at Albert McCormick (Mercedes Benz).  There is no cost to tryout.

Please sign up for the tryout here

Our goal is to have the Midget DS Tournament team attend either 1 or 2 tournaments.  We will register a team in one, or both of these tournaments based on player interest.  We will schedule one practice prior to a tournament to get ready.  The team will only have a max of 2 practice times and no exhibition games.

As we are late in the season, there are only two real options left:

  • Leaside - March 13 - 15, 2020 (First Weekend of March Break) - This is the primary tournament unless there is an issue.
  • Brampton - April 9 -12, 2020 (Easter Weekend) - This could be a second tournament, again unless there is an issue.

We will move forward with the team as long as we can get 10 skaters (6F + 4D) and a goalie for one or both of these tournaments.  Up to 17 players can sign up for a tournament (9F + 6D + 2G).  We can roster up to 25 players.

Players can be on the roster and register for one or both of the tournament.  Fees will be based on the tournament registration.  There is a base cost for the team per player for practice ice etc. plus tournament registration.  As there is some unknowns for # of players and #  of tournaments, the fees could range from $125 (1 tournament and 17 players) to $325 (2 tournament and 11 players) per player.

We will host a couple of team meetings online (Google Hangouts or similar) for the players to review and collaborate on strategies (faceoffs, breakouts, PP, PK, etc.)  This will be their team and they will be involved in the strategy part of the game.

Looking forward to seeing many familiar faces, and new ones, at the tryout.  Please call me if you have any questions – 519-279-6090.
