Not surprisingly, we had another close game with one of the other Waterloo Atom teams gaining a 3-1 victory. Sara showing no ill effects from her warm weather vacation, scored 2 goals on long rushes. Annette scored the other goal with an assist from Brooke. Some energetic play upfront from Maggie, Zoe and Emily M kept good pressure on the puck. The defensive trio of Emily S, Jocelyne and Sara performed well with the heavy workload with a couple of D missing.

It our fifth and perhaps final meeting with the Kitchener Bobcats this season, we squeezed out a 1-0 victory on a goal on a nice rush by Jocelyne. Beth also had a good game defensively. Overall, it was a close game, but tidy victory for us.

Brooke and Annette had a good game in particular, the team overall played quite well. Annette got a good goal on a feed from Brooke. Brooke almost picked the corner - just hitting the far post on a nice pass from Annette. We have 3 forward lines that are working hard and passing well, so it is enjoyable to see. Passing the puck well has enabled us to be strong in the 3rd period by being more efficient moving the puck and expending energy more effectively. Zoe was in good position in front of the net to put in the rebound from Juli's hard initial shot. The speed of the Grand River forwards definitely put some pressure on our aggressive defence.

Facing the Kitchener Bobcats for the 3rd time in less than a month, we played well enough to win 3-0 including an empty net goal. Maggie a had a strong game and scored the game winning goal with assists from Zoe and Juli. Brooke fired a hard shot at the net to score the 2nd goal. We think that Maggie ended the scoring with the empty net goal at the end of the game.

With Jocelyne and Jenna absent, we were missing some strong players, but the team battled hard for the 2-1 win. Juli and Annette worked hard at centre and each delivered a goal. The defensive trio of Sara, Beth and Emily S played really well with limited rest and lots of one-on-one time with Coach Jeff. Alice played a steady game in net.

Another strong team effort resulted in another tournament win. We continued to develop our effective passing in this tournament. In the final game, we were back to our high level of aggressively forcing the play in the offensive zone and sustaining pressure by keeping the puck in at the blue line. Our team defensive effort resulted in only 1 goal allowed in the tournament, but even that goal might have been disallowed.

We had a very good tournament and won some close games. After going undefeated with 4 wins in the round robin, we won Pool D. We advanced to the semifinal against Waterloo 1 and defeated them 2-1 in a tight game. We then played Waterloo 2 in the final game. It was a very close game that could have gone either way. It was 0-0 through regulation time. We survived a short handed situation with 1:23 left in the 3rd period and into the overtime. The overtime remained scoreless. So, it was on to the shootout. Annette, Sara and Jocelyne all scored and Alice stopped 2 of 3 shots for shootout victory.

Nothing like an early Saturday morning game at the Columbia Icefield, where it always feels cold like the middle of winter. We're continuing to play really well and improving each game. We played three solid periods, battling for the puck in all zones and regrouping well. Even missing three players, we managed to build momentum as the game progressed. Brigitte's goal on her own rebound in the 3rd period really opened the game up for us. She played a really strong game.

Today, our girls put in a good team effort playing against the team from West Seneca.  We skated hard all game and actively pursued the puck. We kept good pressure on in the offensive zone and played responsibly in our own end. Our passing continues to improve and our players are starting to exercise better vision.

Our defensive corps of Beth, Emily S, Sara and Jenna played really well to prevent many good scoring opportunities and battled hard in the neutral zone.

Jocelyne continued to show her flexibility by adapting to playing centre. She scored the 2nd goal with an assist going to Haylee. Brooke's determination returning from a lower body injury, yielded 2 goals from her gritty effort in front of the net.

Thanks to the team from West Seneca for playing us and Jeff Butt for setting up the game. It was another good day for girls hockey.

Some good puck movement today in Wilmot resulted in some better quality shots on net, sustained pressure and 3-0 score. Emily S showed some good moves at the blue line to skate around the Wilmot forwards to get some clear shots and keep the puck in their end. Back in the lineup after a 2 game absence, Annette showed some good marksmanship to notch 2 goals. Juli continued her tenacious play and added an important 2nd period goal.

With a number of girls missing from the lineup due to illness and injuries, the players put in a great effort to achieve a 3-1 win in Fergus on Saturday afternoon. Our forwards showed considerable resolve with only two lines and our solid defensive play continued. With improved pressure in the offensive zone and by working the puck to the front of the net, we created more scoring opportunities and hard work around the net resulted in the goals.

Continuing the classic arena tour, we played to a 0-0 tie at Don McLaren. Again, we limited our opponents' shots on net and Jocelyne did a good job being alert and directing their clearing shots to the corner. Emily S played another strong game on the point. Maggie continued to play well positionally on her off wing and helped keep the pressure on the Kitchener team. Brigitte had some good scoring chances including one on breakaway on a lead pass by Juli.

We are still struggling to get good shots from the front of the net, but we will continue to work on that in practice on Sunday. Next weekend, we're off to Fergus to play one of the Grand River teams in an afternoon game.
